CEEP Shetland

CEEP is a two year pilot project launched in April 2011 and jointly managed by the Community Energy Scotland and the Shetland Islands Council with 50% financial assistance from European LEADER funding.

The scheme supports voluntary community groups who manage a community building in Shetland.

The scheme has two grant options groups can apply for:

  • Phase 1 – feasibility study/energy audit to identify where the most energy is being lost in building and the most cost effective solutions to this.
  • Grant available 90% up to £2,000
  • Phase 2 – Capital grant to support groups to install the measures identified in the feasibility stage or measures identified and discussed with Community Energy Scotland and the local Community Worker.
  • Grant Available 75% up to £40,000

The kind of energy efficiency measures which can be supported include insulation, draught proofing for external doors and windows and energy efficient lighting.

The Scalloway Youth Centre which was supported through the CARES grant scheme previously reported that they managed to halve their electricity bill through installing insulation and energy efficient lighting in the main hall and sealing up gaps in other parts of the building.  The group were also amazed at the difference in the comfort level within the building and that it was now much easier to meet the required temperature for a childcare setting.  Other Case studies and example projects can be found in the Online Project Database
