Projects
Small-scale
Community Energy Company and Highlands and Islands Community Energy Scotland has provided funding for over 300 capital projects, installing a variety of renewable energy technologies to help communities reduce their energy costs and their carbon emissions, as well as creating warm comfortable community facilities.
Larger-scale
Community Energy Scotland continues to provide detailed technical advice and
financial support to 120 community groups taking forward larger scale projects, the majority being windpower projects, typically comprising 1 turbine of between 850-900 kW. These projects offer the hope of long-term revenue to many communities struggling to find funds for investment in their communities. They are tiny by commercial wind farm standards but very significant for small community groups relying largely on voluntary commitment to drive them forward.
Capacity building
Other projects we have funded have helped build the ‘capacity’ of community groups. This process - of growing skills and confidence - is essential if communities are to take control of their own development path. It is also central to our wider ambition of developing a network of groups leading sustainable energy development at community level across Scotland. These have become important opportunities for sharing knowledge and building contacts between community groups.
Check out further details on the type of technologies which other communities have adopted, and the energy and financial savings they expect to gain from using these systems.
