Marathon Feat!
26 May 2010
One of the Community Energy Scotland managers, Rona MacKay, not only completed the half marathon in Edinburgh last Sunday 23rd May but did it in borrowed shoes! After a busy week at All Energy and the Borders Energy event, she realised she hadn’t packed her running shoes so borrowed a colleague’s. Despite this, she completed the half marathon successfully albeit with slightly sorer feet than expected.
Rona also inspired other staff to take part in the team relay event for the full marathon, the Hairy Haggis run. ‘The Northern Lights’ and ‘The Northern Heavies’ ran in the blistering sunshine to complete the full marathon route in 4 legs. The teams were made up of Eric Dodd, Felix Wight, Jamie Adam, Melanie Macrae, Laura Nicolson, Laura Knowles, Mark Hull and outside ringer Brian Hannah filled in at the last minute for an injured team member.
It was a great day for everyone and even saw some sizzling in the sea at Port Seton to relieve hot and aching muscles.
The runners raised money through Running4renewables for the Koru Foundation, more specifically for a Sierra Leone Village Solar Electrification project and a Mozambique micro-hydro project. Poor access to electricity is a major obstacle to the delivery of socio-economic services such as education and health in villages in these countries. The money raised by the Koru Foundation will help provide affordable and sustainable electricity supply for homes, schools and clinics in these communities. Community Energy Scotland has so far contributed £975 to the funds raised. You can also contribute at the link below
The team are now looking for a new challenge. Keep an eye out here for plans for more endurance feats.
