Communities across Scotland are generating energy from their local renewable resources locally to provide a carbon free source of energy and a sustainable income source to invest in their local area.

Felix anemometerMore than 180 MW of new capacity is already under development, with the potential to transform communities through long term, sustainable income streams. We are here to help communities with indepdant ongoing advice and support for the development of their projects.

Some inspirational projects:

  • Westray 900kW turbine is set to provide an income of around £100k for the first ten years; rising to £200k once finance debt is cleared.  Westray Development Trust have identified various projects to support, including energy efficiency and reducing the risk of fuel poverty, stimulating economic development via investment in access to further education, training and employment;

  • Tiree Trust 900kW has announced recipients of the first round of project awards as: a children’s play area for Stick Kids; football coaching equipment; a piping tutor to visit the island 12 times a year; a new Beaver Scout group for children aged 5-8; a soft play area for Tiree Toddlers; Zumba equipment; equipment for Tiree Tapestry; play equipment for the pre-5s garden; boat building and maintenance for the Tiree Maritime Trust.
