Kirkhill Switch On
Maybe we turn on too many Christmas lights – but they do help lift the spirits in the depths of a long winter. Now spring has come and now we are switching on new photovoltaic systems instead.
I suppose there are two main differences between photovoltaic systems and Christmas lights. The first is that a PV array will produce energy and the second is that the array will continue to work for many years!

On Saturday 6th March , Kirkhill Community Centre had its photovoltaic array installed. Twenty-two shiny panels facing south and ready to turn the spring sunshine into useable electricity. Kirkhill District Amenities Association has issued a press release (insert link). David Knox, one of the committee members, was on hand to take some photographs of the installation. You can check them out on flickr at the following link. David is happy for any to be downloaded too. http://www.flickr.com/photos/16146841@N05/sets/72157626208848888/
All across Scotland there are community groups working away at projects which are having a cumulative impact. Whether it’s local energy production or being more careful with our resources or food, their combined actions are mounting up. The anthropologist Margaret Mead said ‘ Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.’ I think she was probably right!
