Averon Leisure Centre
North Highland | Biomass | |
| Summary: Averon Leisure Ltd, a community based organisation with approximately 320 members and between 55,000-60,000 visitors per annum manages the Averon Leisure centre in Alness. Their two ageing oil boilers required replacement and they were keen to explore renewables as a replacement in an effort to save on running costs and CO2 emissions. Following a survey through the Action Energy programme and assistance through Highlands and Islands Community Energy Company (now Community Energy Scotland), they applied for a SCHRI grant to assist with the costs of installing a woodfuel boiler for space heating and solar panels for domestic hot water. | ||
| Grant type: Capital Total Cost: £86240 | Status: Grant Amount: £55400 | |
Installation
The system was installed by Econergy with some of the work contracted to Highland Wood Energy. A 150kW veto woodfuel stoker boiler was installed with elevated hopper, control panel, new boiler house and hot water tank. The new equipment was fully integrated with the old oil boilers so emergency backup was always available. Local suppliers of woodchip were contacted and a contract was agreed for regular delivery of the woodchip.
