Community Biomass Schemes
Since its inception Community Energy Scotland has assisted communities in developing Biomass Projects. These include woodchip, wood pellet and automated log boiler systems from single kW installations up to 850kW in scale.

These have been installed in Village Halls, Community Centres, Sports Centres and Social Housing projects too. During this time and through its involvement in development assistance, Community Energy Scotland has built up a significant level of expertise in the sector. This covers correct applications for boiler equipment, fuel quality, delivery reception and types of storage.
Biomass heating is a type of heating where its feedstock or fuel is derived from a natural product such as timber, energy crops, agricultural residues, food waste streams. All these can be used in one form or another to provide an energy source to provide heat.
Wood fibre is by far the most common feedstock used to provide biomass heat. This comes in a number of forms; some processed and some not so, such as wood pellet, wood chip and sawn logs. These fuels are used in combustion to convert their latent energy into heat and heat is then transferred through a heat exchange process to water based heating systems.
