Graham Ault
Graham was appointed Vice Chair in October 2011. He is a professor of electrical power systems in the Institute for Energy and Environment at the University of Strathclyde where he has spent most of his career as both researcher and academic. Most of his activities are in the areas of renewable integration into power networks, power system planning, active power networks, distributed energy resources, asset management, smart grids and energy for international development. He leads research in several publicly and privately funded research programmes across these topics and publishes and speaks at national and international level. He conducts research for and has advised several energy and power network companies on grid technology matters and participated in the Ofgem LENS and TransmiT projects. He is particularly keen on addressing the issues of sustainable energy in developing countries and is working with the Scottish Government and Government of Malawi on a community energy programme in Malawi. He also has a good track record in knowledge exchange and commercial activities and was a founder and currently a non-executive director of Smarter Grid Solutions, a Strathclyde spin-out company, formed in 2008, specialising in active network management technology, solutions and services for the low carbon smart grid.
